On 26 January 1950, our state was constitutionally named Rajasthan.
Rajasthan came to its present form on 1 November 1956. At this time there were 26 districts in Rajasthan.
26th District-Ajmer-1 November, 1956
27th District – Dholpur – 15th April, 1982, it was separated from Bharatpur and became a new district.
28th District- Barra – 10 April 1991, it was separated from Kota and became a new district.
29th District - Dausa - April 10, 1991, it was separated from Jaipur and became a new district.
30th District- Rajsamad – April 10, 1991, it was separated from Udaipur to form a new district.
31st District - Hanumangarh - July 12, 1994, it was separated from Sri Ganganagar to form a new district.
32nd District - Karauli July 19, 1997, it was separated from Sawai Madhopur and became a new district.
33rd District - Pratapgarh - January 26, 2008, it was carved out of three districts to form a new district.

Pratapgarh district was created on the recommendation of Parmeshchand committee. Pratapgarh district started its work from 1st April, 2008. Pratapgarh was known as Kanthal and Devla/Devliya in ancient times.

The border of two districts of Rajasthan is with Punjab. And the border of two districts of Punjab, Fazilka and Muktsar, is bordered by Rajasthan. The maximum border with Punjab is seen by Shri Ganganagar and the minimum border with Hanumangarh. The big district in area on the Haryana border is Churu and the smaller district is Jhunjhunu. Mewat (Nuh) is the newly created district. Which touches the Alwar district of Rajasthan.

The border of two districts of Rajasthan rises from two districts of Uttar Pradesh (Mathura and Agra). The maximum border with Uttar Pradesh is shared by Bharatpur and the least by Dholpur. Near the border of Uttar Pradesh, the district headquarter is Bharatpur and the district headquarter is Dholpur. Madhya Pradesh (1600 km) forms the longest inter-state border with Rajasthan. Whereas Punjab (89 km) forms the shortest inter-state border. Jhalawar district of Rajasthan has the longest inter-state border with Madhya Pradesh. And Barmer district forms the shortest inter-state border which meets Gujarat.
